Hyams Beach
Shoalhaven City Council, Jervis Bay Territory
About
Hyams Beach, famous for its white sand that squeaks beneath your feet, is one of the jewels of Jervis Bay. This iconic beach stretches between Chinamans Beach and Seamans Beach, offering picture-perfect views across the crystal-clear waters of the bay.
The beach has earned worldwide recognition for its powder-fine sand, which is among the whitest in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records. The pristine shoreline gradually slopes into transparent waters, creating ideal conditions for swimming and snorkeling. On calm days, the water clarity is exceptional, offering glimpses of marine life in the protected bay waters.
During whale migration season (May to November), lucky visitors might spot whales and dolphins from the shore. The beach faces east across Jervis Bay, making it a stunning spot for sunrise watching. The protected waters typically offer safe swimming conditions, though it's best to stay between the flags during patrol season.
Several access points are available along Cyrus Street and Bayview Avenue, with amenities including parking, toilets, and a café in the village. However, visitors should note that parking can be challenging during peak holiday periods, particularly in summer and on weekends.
Be aware that southerly winds can impact conditions, and the beach can get crowded during peak times. Early mornings and off-season visits often provide a more serene experience of this world-class beach. For those seeking a quieter alternative, consider exploring the neighboring Chinamans Beach or Little Hyams Beach.
