Mobb's Bay
Ballina Shire Council, New South Wales
About
Mobb's Bay is a hidden estuarine beach tucked away on the southern shore of the Richmond River, offering a quieter alternative to its popular neighbor, South Ballina Beach. Despite being geographically close to Ballina - less than a kilometer as the crow flies - the journey requires a 30-minute drive south due to the necessary river crossing.
The bay provides a sheltered swimming spot where the river meets the ocean, with calmer waters than the more exposed South Ballina Beach just a 2-minute drive away. Its position along the river creates unique conditions for fishing, particularly during tide changes when bream and whiting are known to feed in the area.
The relatively difficult access helps maintain the bay's peaceful atmosphere, making it a favorite among locals who prefer to avoid the busier beaches. The estuarine environment attracts diverse birdlife, particularly at dawn and dusk when wading birds feed along the shoreline.
