Little Sandhills
City of Brisbane, Moreton Island
About
Little Sandhills stands as the southernmost of Moreton Island's three famous sand dunes, offering a more intimate desert-like experience than its larger northern siblings, the Big and Middle Sandhills. This pristine dune system rises dramatically from the surrounding coastal vegetation, creating a striking golden landmark against the deep blue of the Pacific Ocean.
Though smaller than the other dunes, Little Sandhills still provides excellent opportunities for sandboarding, with slopes steep enough for thrilling rides yet manageable for beginners. The dune offers spectacular views across the southern end of Moreton Island and the surrounding waters, making it a popular spot for photographers, particularly during sunrise and sunset when the sand takes on warm, golden hues.
With no facilities at the site, visitors need to come prepared with water, sun protection, and any sandboarding equipment they plan to use. The dune's location means it's often less crowded than its northern counterparts, offering a more serene experience for those willing to make the journey.
